He was 77. The Pennsylvania Democrat had been suffering from complications from gallbladder surgery. He died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., with his family at his bedside, the hospital said.

AP - Toyota is recalling about 170,000 Prius hybrid cars in Japan for braking problems and will soon disclose its global plans for a fix as the automaker scrambles to repair damage to its reputation from a spate of safety problems.

AFP - Toyota Motor said Tuesday it would recall its newest Prius model and two other hybrids in Japan owing to brake problems, the latest in a string of safety issues to hit the auto giant.
